Biarritz's historical museum traces the town's history from its beginnings as a fishing village to the present day.

2. Historical walks
Biarritz lighthouse
This lighthouse offers a superb view of the sea and the town of Biarritz. Built in 1834, it towers 73 metres above the sea.
The Fishermen's Port
To discover Basque culture and tradition, we recommend a visit to the Port des Pêcheurs. Here you'll find crampottes, small huts that were once used to store fishermen's equipment, as well as a number of restaurants.
La villa Beltza
This neo-medieval villa is located at the end of the Côte des Basques. It cannot be visited, but you can admire it from the outside.
The Rocher de la Vierge
The Rocher de la Vierge is the emblem of Biarritz. Legend has it that whalers were caught in a storm until a "divine light" appeared and allowed them to return safely. In 1865, the surviving fishermen decided to install a statue of the Virgin Mary on top of the rock as a token of their thanks. A footbridge was later built to link the rock to the mainland.

Do your shopping at Biarritz's traditional market!
Every day from 7.30am to 2pm, all the local producers in the region gather inside Les Halles to offer a wide choice of fresh produce. From fruit and vegetables to seafood, there's plenty to stock up on for your holidays. On Saturday mornings, the market takes place outside around Les Halles.
5. Shopping
In Biarritz town centre, you'll find plenty of shops where you can do your shopping.
6. Party in Biarritz
Biarritz is also a great place to go out and party. From restaurants and bars to discos, there's plenty to keep you entertained.
